As a person who listens to music while getting ready, cooking, cleaning, writing, running, driving and basically just anytime I can, it is probably the thing that inspires me most and moves me the most deeply. Based on that I put together a list of my favourite inspirational and motivational songs, that inspire me to travel and live life to the fullest every day.
1) I LIVED - ONE REPUBLIC
My favourite inspiration and motivation at the moment, cause in the end all that really matters is that you followed your dreams, took chances and can say that you lived with every inch of your body, every beat of your heart. Since you never know, how much time you´ve got to do all this.
2) TOUR THE WORLD - RENALD FRANCOEUR (MUSIC), CRAIGHTON BERMAN (DRAWING), Dan Markus (VIDEO)
The song is super catchy and the drawing amazing. Everytime I watch this, all I want to do is hop on a plane to anywhere in the world and go exploring. I actually found this video after watching their former one "Tour the States" like a hundred times, before heading to Chicago for my year as an Au Pair in the States.
3) GOOD RIDDANCE (TIME OF YOUR LIFE) - GREENDAY
Because every journey is in some way unpredictable, but in the end everything will be right and everything will have been worth it. Just go out into the world and have the time of your life!
4) CALIFORNIA - PHANTOM PLANET
Because driving down the Pacific Coast Highway from San Francisco to Los Angeles is one of those trips you should take at least once in your lifetime!
5) ON TOP OF THE WORLD - IMAGINE DRAGONS
Oh the ecstatic feeling of travelling to new -and old- places.
6 ) NEW YORK, NEW YORK - FRANK SINATRA
It´s a classic and that´s all that needs to be said.
7) AU REVOIR - MARK FORSTER FT. SIDO
There has been a ton of great German music for a while now I think, and I love to listen to that one when I´m sitting in a plane or bus on my way to a new adventure, escaping the routine at home, as the chorus - freely translated - says:
Nothing is holding me back, Au Revoir,forget who I was, forget my name!
It won´t ever be the same,
I´m out, Au Revoir.
Funny that this one was playing on the radio, when we went to the airport to drop off a friend, that was going to Australia for several months, as well as, when I set off to the US.
8) TRAVELING ALONE - MARIT LARSEN
This one was a recommendation of a friend, when we talked about why I enjoy travelling solo so much. And obviously I could identify myself with the song quite easily. Sums it up pretty well.
9) UNWRITTEN - NATASHA BEDINGFIELD
This song isn´t a typical "travel song", but I find it very inspiring, as it reminds you, that you´ve got it in your own hands, you write your own story. Write it well!
10) TIME TO SAY GOODBYE - ANDREA BOCELLI, SARAH BRIGHTMAN
...because travelling includes many goodbyes.
I seriously love this song, even though there probably hasn´t been a single time I didn´t have to cry a whole waterfall. The most touching moment listening to it, was when it played at the Bellagio in Las Vegas during their fountain show. I was just standing there in disbelief, that this was it and in a week I would fly back to Germany after 13 incredible months.
