It has been more than two years now, since I returned home from my American adventure as an Aupair and still I make these many times, usually ending up eating way too many, but it´s a taste that brings back so many good memories and even better, that it is a little joy I can share. During my year in the Chi-Town suburbs I baked and decorated so many cookies and pastries, that one day my hostdad asked why I didn´t add it to my resume. Back in Germany and in my current Spanish home I switched up the recipe quite a few times and this is what I came up with.
Warm the butter until almost molten. Then add the three sugars and mix until all possible chunks are gone. Add in an egg and stir until you have a smooth mass.
Next, put the above ingredients (yes it involves half of your chocolate) into a mixer and grind to make almond-oat-chocolate-flour - do you have a better name for this? Add it to the bowl with the sugar-egg-butter mixture, as well as 50 -100 g of flour and 1 teaspoon of salt, such as one of baking soda.
Once you have an even dough add in the other halfs of the chocolate bars, cut into chunks. Or, if they´re available in your country use chocolate drops.
Make balls from the dough that you flatten with your hand, once placed on a non-stick cookie sheet or parchment paper. Bake for 7 - 10 minutes on 200°C/ 400°F and enjoy pure or with a glass of milk.
Of course you can vary what you put in. Try M&Ms, dryed fruits or whole nuts for example. Be creative! What is your favourite cookie type? And do you have recipes from abroad that you´d like to share?
